Hocking Hills Fishing

The Hocking Hills is one of the best places to fish in Ohio. With its tranquil lakes, endless tracts of forested land, and the coveted Hocking River, it’s no wonder that this region is a premier hotspot for any Ohio fishing vacation. Every year thousands of visitors come to this serene landscape in search of their personal best or a plentiful bounty. To get you more acquainted with Hocking Hills Fishing, we’ve created a short guide to some of the area’s best fisheries. Be sure to visit the ODNR website for information on your Ohio fishing license, grab a trusty rod and reel, and all your gear because we’re going fishing in Ohio!

Hocking River

Although it is probably best known for its robust smallmouth bass population, the Hocking River also is home to an abundant and diverse community of freshwater fish, such as sauger, channel catfish, crappie, and the occasional walleye. What’s better, the average depth is about three and a half feet, so it typically remains relatively mellow, making it much easier to maneuver your watercraft. For those without boats, the Hocking River also presents a myriad of shore fishing opportunities.

Rose Lake

The official name for Rose Lake is the Hocking Hills Reservoir, but it is also known as Fisherman’s Lake and for a good reason! This human-made lake is stocked with rainbow trout every year and was created by an earthen dam that provides an excellent vantage point for staking out fishing spots. Other fish in this crystal clear reservoir include bluegill, channel catfish, bass, and the elusive golden trout.

Lake Logan

Located just northeast of Hocking Hills State Park, Lake Logan is considered the pinnacle of Hocking Hills fishing. Once known as Hocking Lake, out of respect for the Native American history, the name was updated. Recognized for its steep hills and teeming with a diverse population of fish, including largemouth bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie, saugeye (walleye-sauger hybrid), and northern pike, Lake Logan is a must stop for any Ohio fishing vacation.
