Summer in Ohio is the perfect time to get out on the water. And there’s no better place for that than the Hocking Hills region. Add kayaking in Hocking Hills to your itinerary and take in the sights as you enjoy the beautiful weather and sounds of nature. Whether you want to float down the scenic Hocking River or paddle the calm waters of Lake Logan, there is a paddling route for everyone. After a day on the water, return to your cabin with Chalets in Hocking Hills and cool off with a refreshing dip in the Chalets Resort pool. It’s the perfect way to end a summer day after exploring the great outdoors!
Hocking River
Spending time on the Hocking River is a treasured summer pastime for many. Since the river has calm class 1 rapids, it’s the perfect place to float and relax with your family and friends. Many people choose to tube down the river, but it’s also a great spot for easy kayaking and canoeing. Along the way, you will be rewarded with views of the surrounding forests, sandstone cliffs, and native wildlife.
Kayak and canoe rentals:
Bring your own equipment and launch from one of the many access points along the river. Or rent equipment from Adventure Pro Outdoors and launch from their Nelsonville location. Decide how long you want to spend on the water and choose from their three-mile, six-mile, or eight-mile river trips. You can also find rentals with Hocking Hills Canoe Livery.
Our Chalets guests can save 10% on rentals with Adventure Pro Outdoors by using the promo code CHALETS10!
Lake Logan
Head to Lake Logan and embark on a relaxing paddling adventure on this scenic 400-acre lake. Bask in the sunshine and enjoy views of the Appalachian foothills as you explore. The lake also enforces a 10mph speed limit for boats, so you don’t have to deal with large wakes or waves from fast-moving boats.
Kayak and canoe rentals:
Lake Logan Marina has everything you need to get on the water. Reserve single open kayaks, single closed kayaks, or double kayaks on-site and start exploring.
Lake Hope
If you are looking for a quieter area for kayaking, we recommend traveling to Lake Hope. Paddle through lily pads on the 120-acre lake while admiring the surrounding views of Zaleski State Forest.
Kayak and canoe rentals:
Rent equipment through the Lake Hope Boathouse. Choose a single kayak, a double sit-in kayak, or a canoe rental.
Rose Lake
Rose Lake can be a bit tricky to get to, but if you are up for the challenge, it’s incredibly rewarding. To get to this lake, you will have to carry your canoe or kayak along the ½ mile trail. At the end of the trail, you will arrive at the 17-acre Rose Lake, where you will be able to launch
your kayak. If you don’t want to carry in your kayak, this is a great spot for hiking and fishing.
There are no kayak or canoe rentals at Rose Lake.
